Phoenix car crash leaves one man dead

Posted

A man was killed during a traffic collision in the area of 35th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road in Phoenix early Friday morning.

Phoenix police responded to the intersection about 4:30 a.m. Friday to investigate a serious collision involving a car and a SUV, the Phoenix Police Department announced. Officers found a man, identified as 57-year-old Jose Peguero, suffering from serious life-threatening injuries. Peguero was pronounced deceased on scene by Phoenix Fire employees.

The driver of the SUV, an adult male, stayed on scene and did not show any signs of impairment.

Detectives learned from witnesses that the victim was driving south on 35th Avenue and failed to stop at the red light on Lower Buckeye Road, according to Phoenix police. The SUV driving east hit the car which caused a second impact at the signal control box.

The investigation is ongoing.
