Phoenix building collapses during storm, traps worker

A worker was unaccounted for Wednesday night after the roof of a “large commercial building” partially collapsed during a storm, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the scene near 43rd Avenue and Van Buren Street and were told by employees that a worker remained in the building, department officials stated on X, formerly Twitter.

Phoenix Fire Urban Search and Rescue was at the scene, but a department spokesman said the search was hampered by the threat of another collapse.

A worker was unaccounted for Wednesday night after the roof of a “large commercial building” partially collapsed during a storm, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the scene near 43rd Avenue and Van Buren Street and were told by employees that a worker remained in the building, department officials stated on X, formerly Twitter.

Phoenix Fire Urban Search and Rescue was at the scene, but a department spokesman said the search was hampered by the threat of another collapse.

A search-and-rescue dog was sent into the building to find the person inside, authorities said.
