City of Phoenix officials broke ground on a new affordable housing development in downtown on Thursday, Feb. 12.
The Moreland, at 325 E. Moreland St., plans to bring 237 affordable housing units. The project will be broken into two phases: Phase 1 will include 132 units and plans to be completed by January 2028. Phase 2 will bring the remaining 105 units and is still in the planning stages.
The site used to be home to the Deck Park Vista Apartments, which consisted of 56 affordable housing units but was demolished in 2022. The former residents of those apartments will have the first chance to move into The Moreland, said Phoenix Housing Director Titus Mathew during the groundbreaking ceremony on Feb. 12.
