Phoenix Boys Choir, a tradition in Phoenix for more than 75 years, will bring its annual holiday concerts to the Valley in December.
Led by Artistic Director Herbert Washington, this year’s concert, titled “Transcendent Winter,” will take place at multiple venues.
Scheduled performances are:
- 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9: St. Luke Lutheran Church, 807 N. Stapley Drive, Mesa
- Noon, Sunday, Dec. 10: Musical Instrument Museum, 4725 E. Mayo Blvd., Phoenix
- 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16: Camelback Bible Church, 3900 E. Stanford Drive, Paradise Valley (Phoenix Boys Choir alumni will also perform)
- 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17: Brophy Chapel, 4701 N. Central Ave., Phoenix
Tickets range from $25 to $38.50 and are available at boyschoir.org. Discounts are available for students and seniors, and kids 12 and under are free.
The program will showcase music featuring a chamber orchestra, solo artists, alumni, and audience members in harmony with the Phoenix Boys Choir choristers.
A highlight of the series will be the world premiere of “Mwanga Mkali Aita (The Bright Light Calls)” by Arizona composer Michael Bryson. This piece was awarded second place in the Phoenix Boys Choir’s 2023 New Works Rising Choral Composition Competition.
