Phoenix-based Deer Valley board picks Ordway as president

During its Jan. 9 meeting, the Deer Valley Unified School District selected Ann Ordway as the board president for 2024 and Paul Carver as vice president.

Ordway was chosen by a 3-2 vote. She, Carver and Stephanie Simacek voted in her favor while Kim Fisher and Jennie Paperman voted against.

Carver received a 4-1 vote with he, Ordway, Paperman and Simacek in favor and Fisher against.

Simacek was unanimously appointed as the Arizona School Boards Association delegate and Paperman was the unanimous choice as alternate.

In 2023, Paperman was the board president and Fisher was the vice president.

Ordway began serving on the board in 2009 and her current term ends on Dec. 31. She is a longtime New River resident and has served in leadership positions at New River and Gavilan Peak Elementary Schools, Boulder Creek High School, and the Kiwanis organization.

Carver is a former student in the district and began his term in 2023. He served in the United States Marine Corps and is a father to eight children.
