Phoenix asks DOJ to release full report into police when investigation ends

At the behest of a resident petition, Phoenix City Council voted last week to ask the U.S. Department of Justice to make public the report of its investigation into the city’s police department as soon as it is complete.

The DOJ has been investigating the Phoenix Police Department and the city of Phoenix since August 2021 to determine if police engaged in a pattern or practice of misconduct, including excessive force or discriminatory or retaliatory policing, and whether systemic deficiencies enable misconduct to persist.
