Phoenix approves year-long road safety study

Funding also approved for short-term improvements

Phoenix roads are among the most dangerous in the nation. By Spring 2022, the city intends to have a comprehensive plan to improve those safety concerns.

In the meantime, City Council has freed up money for some immediate fixes.

A study from National Highway Safety Administration found Phoenix had the third-most traffic fatalities of any U.S. city from 2017 to 2019, behind Los Angeles and Houston. Phoenix ranked sixth in traffic fatalities per capita during the same period, trailing Memphis, Tennessee; Detroit; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Jacksonville, Florida; and Dallas.
