Phoenix approves $9.9 billion tentative budget

City officials preach conservative spending in face of lost revenue, members of public call for spending now

Phoenix City Council approved a $9.9 billion tentative budget for the upcoming fiscal year with an 8-0 vote on Tuesday, a decline from previous years.

The vote for the final budget adoption will be Wednesday, June 12, and the vote for the new property tax levy will be Monday, July 1, the first day of the new fiscal year.

The $9.9 billion budget includes plans to spend $7.2 billion on operating expenses and $2.7 billion on capital improvement projects. The operating budget is broken into a $2.1 billion general fund, $2.8 billion special revenue fund and $2.3 billion enterprise funds.
