Phoenix City Council approved $100,000 to fund a public art project that will accompany improvements to the intersection of Grand Avenue, 35th Avenue and Indian School Road.
The project “exemplifies how art can transform public spaces and unite communities,” said District 5 Councilmember Betty Guardado during Wednesday’s city council meeting.
The Grand-35 Project will reconstruct the intersection to create a new elevated intersection of 35th Avenue and Indian School Road over Grand Avenue, allowing traffic on Grand Avenue to flow freely and eliminating vehicle crossings with the BNSF Railroad. It is an Arizona Department of Transportation project, in partnership with the city of Phoenix and Maricopa Association of Governments.
