Phoenix aims to help low-income residents pay their energy bill

More than 79,000 households in Phoenix spend 6% or more of their household income on their energy bill, and more than 42,000 households spend more than 10%.

The city of Phoenix is aiming to reduce those numbers of residents with high energy burdens. Staff is in the beginning phases of crafting an Energy Access Plan.

“These residents often must choose between cooling their homes and covering other essential needs like food, health care or rent,” said Phoenix City Energy Manager Carlos Aguiar during an online presentation last week.
