Phoenix City Council last week adopted a plan to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the city by 2050.
The plan was a result of collaboration between all 29 city departments and several public feedback periods during the past 18 months, creating a detailed, 213-page document that lays out plans for the city to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 and cut emissions by at least half by 2030. The Phoenix Climate Action Plan is intended to be a living document that can be amended over the years as needed.
The effort includes plans to increase renewable energy, public transit options, the number of electric vehicles on the road and shade as well as provide clean air, clean and reliable water sources, increased use of recycled materials and provide healthy and sustainable food for all residents.
