PFAS levels caused 2 Glendale well closures

Surprise wells north of Luke AFB test clean

Thanks to timing, the closure of two city of Glendale wells because of the presence of the “forever chemical” known as PFAS did not receive as much scrutiny as recent well closures in Goodyear and Litchfield Park.

PFAS, or per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are man-made, widely used, long-lasting chemicals that break down very slowly over time.

The city decided to take proactive samples at its wells in 2019, said Meghan Sheldon, Glendale’s deputy director of water services.
