Peoria’s community paramedicine program gets boost

Cares Act funds 27 new members

Peoria residents might not be familiar with the community paramedicine program that is part of the city’s fire-medical department, but that could change moving forward.

Paramedicine works to improve access to health care and avoid duplicating existing services, such as unneeded trips to the emergency room, saving on health care costs.

City Manager Jeff Tyne said the number of contacts, visits and referrals within the community paramedicine program have quadrupled in the last year.
