Peoria ‘welcomes’ potential expansion talk at Terramar School

DVUSD superintendent says campus will be too crowded for portable classroom

With one issue seemingly settled in the ongoing re-boundary plans within Deer Valley Unified School District, the next issue figures to be managing a campus facing overcrowding.

The governing board on Tuesday this week voted unanimously to revise a boundary proposal that had called for students at Terramar School, at 7000 W. Happy Valley Road, Peoria, to switch to both Hillcrest Middle School and Las Brisas under new boundaries. Instead, in response to parents and families in the Terramar community objecting to the proposal, the board elected to keep Terramar students where they are.

That does, however, set up the campus to face the potential of being overcapacity in student enrollment as that area continues its rapid growth. Terramar is already approaching overcapacity, DVUSD deputy superintendent Jim Migliorino noted Tuesday, which had necessitated the original proposal.
