Valley city to grant city manager approval to buy Arizona state land

Council has traditionally had final approval on land acquisition

Peoria City Council will consider new policy language that will allow the city manager, or representative, to purchase state trust land at public auctions.

This would be a shift from the current practice of council having final approval over land purchases, which allows the public to have a say in such decisions.

While this new language only addresses Arizona State Land Department parcels, some residents said they believe it pulls power away from elected officials.
