Peoria Unified works on short-term fixes to overcrowding

Could include new buildings at 2 schools in the north

Non-traditional instructional spaces are being converted into classrooms at Liberty High and Lake Pleasant Elementary schools because both are overcapacity.

For example, storage spaces have been changed into offices and offices into instructional spaces. Classes are being taught in the library and learning has even been happening in the cafeteria.

As a short-term fix, officials have worked on a number of retrofits at the schools to alleviate the situation, all while being fiscally responsible. They are considering other short-term options to deal with immediate needs.
