Peoria Unified teachers get bump in benefits

Temporary measures run through end of March

Last month, the Peoria Unified School District approved a bump in compensation for substitute teachers and they followed up this month with a temporary bump for teachers as well.

The board approved measures, Jan. 14, for teachers to receive up to 80 hours of paid sick leave if needed as a result COVID-19, as well as approved an increase to classroom coverage from $20/hour to $25/hour and from $30/90 minutes to $37.50/90 minutes. This can be applied when a teacher covers for another teacher who is absent.

Classroom coverage is up 16% in the district year-over-year, officials said.
