Peoria Unified teacher files notice of claim against district, board members

Rooks, Hill accused of discrimination

A Peoria Unified teacher has sent a notice of claim to the district and two governing board members alleging violation of federal and state discrimination laws regarding their gender identity.

The claim, initially reported by KJZZ, alleges Desert Harbor Elementary School special education teacher River Chunnui was singled out by governing board members Heather Rooks and Rebecca Hill, who the claim alleges attempted to terminate their employment on the basis of their gender identity.

Chunnui uses the pronouns they/them.
