Board clerk says governing board should have had final approval on settlement

Peoria Unified School District has settled a lawsuit out of court with a transgender teacher who alleged they were discriminated against based on their gender and gender identity, but one governing board member wasn’t happy about it.

River Chunnui, who is transgender, identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, alleged they endured “discriminatory, retaliatory, and tortuous” actions from two governing board members at the time.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court March 8, 2024.
