Peoria Unified retention, recruiting stipend narrowly approved

Will help attract bus drivers, other employees

The Peoria Unified School District governing board narrowly approved a $1,500 retention and recruiting stipend to all returning staff from fiscal year 2021 and new staff hired on or after July 1.

The request came before the governing board, Sept. 9, due to staffing shortages and employee turnover.

Additionally as part of the request, the board approved an extra $250 for a total of $1,750 to help retain and recruit bus drivers to the district due to a national bus driver shortage.
