Peoria Unified might lose tens of millions due to spending limit

Legislature could allow for exemption

Public schools across the state are opening the new year waiting to see if the Arizona Legislature will act to prevent major cuts to education budgets, including Peoria Unified School District’s bottom line.

Without action from state lawmakers, Arizona schools will have to reduce spending this academic year by a cumulative total of more than $1.2 billion. That translates to a cut of $43 million for PUSD.

“This is hugely concerning for our school district and school districts around the state,” PUSD spokeswoman Danielle Airey said.
