Substitute teachers have been awarded a bump in pay in the Peoria Unified School District, making them more competitive with neighboring districts.
The governing board approved an increase in the hourly rate compensation for emergency certified substitute teachers by an additional $5 per hour and moved the overall substitute pay from $105 per day to $135 and from $135 per day to $155 for long-term assignments.
Chief Personnel Officer Carter Davidson said the district has been working very hard to increase the district’s substitute teacher pool, which has a fill rate near 70% for classes in need.
