Peoria Unified considers possible school closures

3 elementary schools will be under the microscope

A lack of use — more specifically low enrollment — is spurring the Peoria Unified School District to repurpose three elementary schools: Pioneer, Sky View and Desert Palms.

How these facilities will be repurposed remains to be seen, but the result could end in any number of possibilities ranging from the land being sold to the schools being closed, to turning one site into a resource center.

The recommendation comes after a more than two-year process of gathering information through a district-commissioned facilities use and assessment study as well as a committee created in 2020.
