Peoria Unified board votes to reinstate Liberty wrestling coach

District investigation remains open with more witnesses to be heard

The Peoria Unified School District governing board voted to reinstate Liberty High wresting coach Eric Brenton who had been put on administrative leave during investigations of varsity team members for alleged sexual assault hazing incidents.

However, the district administrative investigation has not been closed. Final personnel action, if any, will occur only upon completion of the investigation and upon advice of legal counsel.

The governing board vote was divided, 3-2, to reinstate the coach with board members Heather Rooks, Becky Proudfit and Janelle Bowles voting to reinstate. Board members Melissa Ewing and Jeff Tobey voted against the motion.
