Peoria Unified board votes Rooks out of president's seat

In an unprecedented mid-year move, the Peoria Unified School District governing board has a new president.

The board voted to remove President Heather Rooks from her seat and replace her with board member Jeff Tobey. Applause rang out after the approval at the special meeting in a packed boardroom largely filled with opponents of Rooks May 5.

Rooks will remain on the board, just not as president, which comes with having a say in the setting of the agenda, as well as presiding over meetings.
