Peoria Unified board divided over guiding document intended to unify

Governing board removes words like social emotional, equity, inclusiveness from vision, mission, value statements

The Peoria Unified School District governing board was divided over the approval of a document that is intended to unify the board and district — the document known as the vision, mission and value statements, which guides the district in all that it does.

The board narrowly approved the statements Feb. 27, but not before governing board member Melissa Ewing moved to table the item to get input from stakeholders.

The motion was not seconded, despite two other board members who seemed supportive of gathering more input before moving forward.
