Peoria City Council will be presented with a site selection study for a proposed airport within the city at its Jan. 14 public meeting.
A city-commissioned economic impact assessment estimates an airport in Peoria could bring $1 billion in annual economic impact, nearly 8,000 jobs, and more than $60 million annually in state and local taxes. The $1 billion of annual economic impact is equivalent to having a Super Bowl in Peoria every year, officials say.
Subsequent of the econmic assessment, another study commissioned by the city released last June stated there is demand for a new airpark within the city.
