Police arrested a man in connection with a shooting and robbery at a store in downtown Peoria Wednesday afternoon, according to a release.

Jourdyn Ford, 18, was arrested Thursday for allegedly shooting a person inside Park Clothing Center, 8150 W. Peoria Ave., during a robbery attempt, according to police.

Peoria Police Department officers responded to the scene at about 4:20 p.m. April 12.

Medical officials transported a female victim to the hospital for life-threatening injuries, where she later died. Officials identified her as the owner of the store, Christina Park, 57 of Peoria.

Officers obtained and viewed surveillance video of the incident. They discovered a male suspect had entered the store, was there for several minutes and then pulled a gun on Park, shot her twice and then left with items from the store, according to the release.

In an email, Officer Brandon Sheffert stated police do not believe anyone else was in the store when the incident occurred.

A Peoria officer recognized the suspect from previous encounters, and officials determined he was in fact a male by the name of Jourdyn Ford. Police also received tips from the community.

According to police, Ford fled the scene in Park's vehicle. Officials recovered it several hours later in Phoenix but did not locate Ford. Peoria detectives worked throughout the night to establish Ford’s location.

At about 1 p.m., with the assistance of Peoria K9 units, Peoria SWAT, Phoenix Police, and the United States Marshalls, police located Ford at an apartment complex in the area of 43rd Avenue and West Indian School Road and took him into custody.

Ford was transported to the Peoria Police Department for processing and was booked into the MCSO 4th Avenue Jail.

Ford faces one count each of first degree murder, armed robbery and theft-means of transportation.

"This case is still under investigation and charges may be added or amended," the release stated. "We are not seeking any additional suspects at this time. We thank everyone who assisted with getting Ford into custody for this heinous crime and our thoughts are with the family of Christina Park."
