Peoria reallocates $14M to accelerate infrastructure for Innovation Core

‘Additional technical demands’ identified for wastewater projects

The city of Peoria is reallocating about $14 million from its fiscal year 2026 water/wastewater capital improvement budget to accelerate two wastewater projects for the Peoria Innovation Core.

Documents state city management determined last fall the reallocation is needed for about 14,500 feet of new 18-inch sanitary sewer line along 96th Avenue as well as a regional wastewater lift station.

City Manager Mike Faust said the sewer project was originally programmed with a construction start of fiscal year 2028, which did not meet the project needs.
