Start your Thanksgiving celebration with a race in the West Valley to support a great cause.

The Thanksgiving Day Classic begins at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 23 at the Peoria Sports Complex, 16101 N. 83rd Ave.

The event features three distances: 10-mile (starts at 8 a.m.), 5K (8:10 a.m.), and 1-mile Fun Run (8:18 a.m.).

There will be a 10:30 a.m. cut-off for the safety of participants and course workers, which amounts to a minimum pace of 15 minutes per mile.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving pies will be awarded to the top three finishers in every age group, for the 5k and 10-mile races.

Proceeds from the races will support the Peoria Diamond Club, providing grants to many local charities including Special Olympics Arizona. To date Arizona Road Racers has donated more than $65,000 to these charity efforts.

In addition, don’t forget to bring an unwrapped toy on race day for the Peoria Diamond Club’s toy drive.

Race registration ends at 5:59 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 23.
