Peoria staff regroups on final portion of Northern Parkway, avoids going over budget

2 remaining segments are currently in design, must be completed by end of 2025

The completion of the Peoria portion of Northern Parkway has run up against time and cost constraints, so the city’s engineering department regrouped to keep the project from going over budget.

Chris Lemka, a traffic engineer with the city, said because of escalating costs the two remaining segments in Peoria — 91st to 99th avenues and 99th Avenue to Agua Fria River — were estimated to be about $25 million to $26 million overbudget.

But the project design was changed to meet existing budget, so it did not go over budget.
