Peoria officers were involved in a shooting Sunday morning near 9200 West Grand Avenue where police said they were responding to a call about a man breaking into vehicles.

Two officers were taken to a hospital, but their injuries were not serious, according to a Peoria Police Department release. The suspect died at the scene.

At about 6:50 a.m. Dec. 1, officers received information from a business owner who was watching his video surveillance cameras. He said the man, who has not been identified, arrived at his business, which was closed, and “was going through other vehicles nearby,” the release stated.

Once officers arrived in the area, they saw a man breaking into vehicles and attempted to contact him, but he got inside his vehicle to leave.

“He pinned two of our officers against another vehicle. The officers fired at least one round towards the unidentified male. Other officers arrived on scene and rendered aid," but the suspect died at the scene, the release stated.

The officers involved were wearing their activated body-worn cameras, police said, adding that Buckeye police will be leading an investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
