Peoria Police are investigating a domestic violence incident that left one person dead from a gunshot wound.

Peoria Police responded to a call for service at a residence near 83rd Avenue and Happy Valley Road, at about 10 p.m., Sept. 14.

The victim contacted 911 to report his stepson had pointed a handgun at both he and his wife multiple times. The stepson was known to have a history of mental health-related issues and had access to firearms within the home.

The stepson has been identified as Zachary Parker, 25, of Peoria, who was taken into custody without incident.

Officers conducted a protective sweep of the home to check on the victim and located him laying on the ground inside the residence with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The victim has been identified as Casey Orlowski, 64, of Peoria.

Detectives are still working on collecting more information about what led up to the shooting. This appears to be an isolated domestic violence incident, and there is no threat to the community.

Parker was taken to the Peoria Police Department, processed, and later booked into the Maricopa County Jail on several felony charges that include second-degree murder - intentional and aggravated assault.

At the time of the call, the Orlowski had locked himself in his bedroom and told police he did not know where his wife or stepson were within the house. The victim’s wife had escaped and found safety at a neighbor’s home, where a second 911 call was made, police said.

Upon arrival on scene, officers heard multiple gunshots coming from inside the residence as they approached.

When they tried to enter the home, police discovered the metal security screen door was locked, preventing immediate access. Officers quickly established containment and a plan of entry into the residence, a news release states.

Shortly thereafter, Parker came out of the home with his hands up, police said.
