Peoria police investigate officer-involved shooting after armed robbery

Posted

Peoria police are investigating after officers were involved in a shooting after initially responding to an armed robbery call.

The incident occurred before 10 p.m. Monday near 91st and Northern avenues.

The Peoria Police Department said no officers were injured. A suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police were initially responding to an armed robbery call.

Peoria police have been investigating at least two armed robberies (five robberies overall) within the city since the start of 2019. One of the armed incidents appears to have occurred Jan. 2 near 91st Avenue and Bell Road. Another robbery may have happened there three days later.

Police have not responded to multiple requests for information on the Jan. 2 or Jan. 5 incidents.

Monday night's shooting marks the second officer-involved shooting in the West Valley in the last week.

In the Jan. 11 incident, three suspects were arrested while another was pronounced dead at the hospital. The suspects are believed to be connected to 26 armed robberies in the Valley, according to court documents released Monday morning.
