Police asking for public's help in suspect search

Peoria police are investigating an early morning homicide and asking for the public's assistance in the suspect search.

Peoria Police responded to the report of a shooting in the area of 78th Drive and Sweetwater Avenue, on Jan. 25, at approximately 4:11 a.m.

The caller reported they heard a gunshot and observed a male subject lying in the street.

Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers rendered aid to the victim and he was taken to a local hospital by members of the Peoria Fire-Medical Department.

The victim later died from his injuries while at the hospital.

This is believed to be an isolated incident, officers said.

Originally, officers had detained individuals but later determined they were not involved in this incident.

Peoria Police Department detectives are currently working on this case, as it is an ongoing investigation.

During the investigation on-site, there were roadway restrictions in the area -- 78th Drive was closed in both direction from Sweetwater Avenue and Windrose Drive.

Upon investigation, surveillance video was retrieved from the neighborhood.

Officers said the video showed a white SUV pulling a trailer, with a gray passenger car on the trailer. The suspect vehicle is the vehicle  pulling the trailer, officers said.

The victim’s car traveled just a few feet behind the suspect’s vehicle before both vehicles went out of sight of the camera.

If anyone has additional information on the suspect or suspects’ vehicle, they are encouraged to call the Peoria Police Department or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
