Peoria police: Girl fights off attacker while walking to work

Peoria police arrested a man Tuesday morning after he attempted to attack a girl, according to a release.
On March 21 at about 5:10 a.m., a 17-year-old female was walking to work on 75th Avenue in the area of West Mountain View Road when a male riding a bicycle approached her from behind.
According to a Peoria Police Department release, the man got off of his bicycle and allegedly grabbed the girl by her neck, pressed an unknown object to the side of her head, and attempted to choke her and pull her to the ground.
The girl screamed and struggled to free herself from his grasp, the release stated. After about 30 seconds of struggling, the girl escaped and used her cell phone to dial 911. Police said she was visibly shaken but did not sustain any physical injury.
The suspect fled the area on his bicycle. Peoria officers located and detained a man a few blocks away matching the description the victim provided. The girl confirmed the detained man as her attacker. Police placed him under arrest and identified him as Jacob Naranjo, 31 of Glendale.
While searching Naranjo, police found a small set of garden clippers which was possibly the object pressed to the side of the girl's head.
Officials booked Naranjo into the 4th Avenue Jail on one count each of kidnapping and aggravated assault.
These charges are preliminary and may be amended or changed.
