Peoria Police gets funds for traffic technology, DUI enforcement

State gives city $190K grant

The Peoria Police Department will receive about $190,000 in grant money from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for various law enforcement equipment, most notably funds that will go to the purchase of a drone that will improve the accuracy and efficiency of car accident reports.

Police Chief Art Miller said the drone is the latest in technology to be used for reconstruction of traffic accidents, specifically serious injury or fatal accidents.

What would take five or six officers seven or eight hours to do, this drone technology could do in minutes, he said.
