Peoria Police Department launches mental health counseling program

Numerous Peoria police personnel along the chain of command recently worked to apprehend Eric Maes, who had kidnapped his son, and in the process killed the mother.

The dramatic narrative ended with Mr. Maes dead from injuries suffered in a suicide attempt after his arrest. Now the young child will grow up with no parents.

Police officers experience trauma like this on a daily basis that can weigh heavy on their mental health and lead to anxiety, depression, PTSD and even suicide.
