Peoria police arrest man on 2 counts of first-degree murder

Peoria Police have arrested 21-year-old Alexander Lee Smith for his involvement in a double homicide.

Peoria Police and the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force worked together to arrest 21-year-old Alexander Lee Smith for his involvement in a double homicide.
He was arrested at about 3:45 p.m., Nov. 11, in Gilbert, without incident.
He was charaged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Smith was taken to the Peoria Police Department where he was interviewed, processed, and later taken to Maricopa County Jail. He was booked on two counts of first degree murder, according to a news release.
Peoria Police responded to the report of a shooting inside a residence near 78th Avenue and Mescal Street at 4:12 a.m. Nov. 11. A victim reported she had been shot along with her husband inside her residence.
Officers arrived on scene and located two victims inside a residence with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The male victim died from his injuries on scene. He has been identified as 52-year-old Peoria resident Walter Mitchell. Lifesaving measures were performed on the female victim on scene. She was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries, where she died from her injuries, the release said. She has been identified as 42-year-old Peoria resident Susie Ephrem.
Preliminary information showed there was forced entry into the residence, and that the incident was not a random act, the release said. Detectives conducted interviews with neighbors, family members and witnesses. They were able to locate and arrest Smith in Gilbert.
