Peoria crime - Saenz Jose Saenz was arrested after attempting to enter an ambulance and swinging at a Glendale fire official

By Chris Caraveo, Independent Newsmedia

Police arrested a man last week after an altercation with a Glendale fire official while he tried to enter the back of an ambulance, according to a report.

On Jan. 11, Peoria Police Department officers responded to a call at about 3 a.m. near 6710 W. Peoria Ave. to assist the Glendale Fire Department.

Through their investigation, officers discovered a member of Glendale Fire was in the performance of his duties when a male suspect attempted to gain entry into the ambulance. Police identified  him as 25-year-old Jose Saenz.

The fire official and his coworkers advised the Saenz not to enter the vehicle, and once more when it was already in motion.

The fire official attempted to raise the Saenz’s attention to get him out of the way. The official grabbed onto the Saenz’s arm to try and remove him from the vehicle. Saenz swung his elbows towards the official and nearly struck him.

Saenz continued to the back of the ambulance, where he attempted to open the doors of the moving vehicle. However, the official forced Saenz onto the ground and away from the ambulance. The official sustained minor scrapes on his legs.

Saenz’s actions kept the ambulance from transporting its patient to the hospital.

Saenz fled the scene, but law enforcement contacted him nearby.

He was booked into the 4th Avenue Jail. He faces charges of aggravated assault, trespassing and obstruction.
