Peoria police arrested an elementary school student after he made threats against another school within the district.

According to the Peoria Police Department, a 12-year-old student who attends Alta Loma Elementary School made threats against Santa Fe Elementary School. Both schools are located in Peoria and are part of the Peoria Unified School District.

The boy made the threats via a Snapchat group sometime over the weekend, a police spokesperson stated.

According to police, the threat was to conduct a school shooting at Santa Fe. The boy sent a picture of a gun through Snapchat.

Two concerned students contacted school staff and police received word of the threats Monday, Feb. 13 at about 2:30 p.m.

Officers investigated the circumstances and the threats before arresting the student.  Police located a replica toy gun at the boy's home.

The student was booked into the Durango Juvenile Detention Center on a hoax charge. The charge is preliminary and additional ones may be added or amended.

PUSD was notified of the incident and arrest and was ensured the suspect would not be on campus Tuesday.

The police applaud the students who contacted school staff, a released stated.
