Peoria over budget on police locker room project

2 other recent police department projects estimated to come in under budget

Peoria is beginning the process to improve its police locker room at the main precinct located in the municipal complex downtown, but the city will have to dip into its reserves for $500,000 to complete the project.

Factors contributing to the overage at the Public Safety Administration Building, located at 83rd and Cinnabar avenues, include higher demolition costs for concrete floor and locker base removals; higher HVAC and building controls costs due to insufficient existing building exhaust; and higher temporary construction costs for things such as portable restroom trailer rentals, according to a staff report.

City-paid project expenses during the construction phase include development fees, interior building signs and information technology equipment, cabling procured via cooperative purchase agreements and/or small dollar procurements, as well as construction phase project contingency, which collectively totals $102,131, the report stated.
