Peoria makes Juneteenth an official city holiday

Celebrates freedom, commemorates end of slavery in U.S.

June 19, commonly known as Juneteenth, was unanimously approved on Nov. 15 as an official holiday for the city of Peoria.

The holiday celebrates freedom and commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.

Juneteenth was made a federal holiday by President Joe Biden on June 17, 2021.
