Of all the local athletes that suddenly leapt to track gold in the spring, none got a later start in the sport than Isaac Moreno.
The Peoria High junior saw some success in the long jump as a freshman and in two meets before his sophomore season was canceled. But he was still a novice as a long jumper and was just learning how to triple jump — weeks after his rivals’ seasons began.
“I missed a few meets because I was working a while. The first meet back was the Apollo Invite and I didn’t do triple jump last year,” Moreno said. “It was a lot of practice getting my timing down.”
