Peoria fire-medical cancer program set to launch

Will provide annual screenings, support to firefighters

Retired Peoria Fire-Medical Department Capt. David Rehnke, 59, succumbed last month to a 10-year battle with renal cell carcinoma.

His death was considered to be in the line of duty caused by occupational cancer.

Mr. Rehnke began his work with the department in 1989, was promoted to engineer in 1996, promoted to captain in 2008 and retired in 2015.
