Peoria experiences ‘unprecedented’ capital improvement challenges

Costs, labor shortages, supply chain issues make for difficult planning

Sky rocketing construction costs and labor shortages along with a variety of supply chain issues have amounted to an unprecedented combination of challenges for the city of Peoria.

Because of the volatile state of the economy right now, city staff has been going through the thoughtful process of prioritizing capital projects and weighing which ones should move forward and which ones it might be wise to wait on.

One of those projects is phase 2 of Paloma Community Park in the northern part of the city. The design portion of this phase is 90% done and ready to launch into construction, but the city council, per city staff recommendation has decided to put construction on hold until costs level off.
