Peoria dips into contingency to cover rising gas costs

Skyrocketing crude oil hits city in the pocket

Prices at the pump are hitting everybody and that includes the city of Peoria, which has a fleet of about 900 vehicles as part of its Public Works Department.

The unanticipated spike in gas prices has forced the city to dig into its contingency fund to the tune of $750,000 — an action not taken would have left the city exhausted of fuel for its fleet in April.

Public Works Director Jay Davies said 2022 continues to introduce some rather unique variables into the market.
