PHOENIX - Peoria was not able to lock into its game in the 4A boys basketball final against Deer Valley until the final five minutes.
But five minutes of control were all the Panthers needed to hold off their closest rival. Up 51-50, Peoria closed Thursday's game with a 14-7 run to win its first state title since 2012.
Senior Calvin Windley scored four of his six point to grow the lead to 57-50 with 3:07 left. And fellow senior guard Andrew Camacho shook off one of his worst halves of shooting to score 15 of his 22 points in the second half and lead the Panthers to a 65-57 victory.
