Peoria couple adds to urban farming’s ‘growing sector’

Their produce can be found weekly at Glendale Arrowhead market -- and online

Nestled along 75th Avenue, between Greenway and Thunderbird roads in Peoria, is a farming plot hidden in plain sight.

Brighton Ridge Farms, started seven years ago by husband and wife George and Kim Denny, has developed its 1-acre urban farm to include 80 fruit trees and all kinds of tomato varieties and other produce. They’re also regular vendors at the weekly Arrowhead Momma’s Organic Market, held every Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m., in the Dillard’s parking lot at 7700 W. Arrowhead Towne Center, in Glendale.

Both Kim and George have day jobs, in addition to their horticulture venture. He’s a firefighter with Harquahala Valley Fire District Station 371 in Tonopah, in the southwest corner of Maricopa County. She’s a research director and works from home. And they keep plenty busy with their kids, Brighton and Ridge, the farm’s namesakes, ages 3 and 5.
