Peoria parks could see more athletic tournaments

City commissioned study to look into sports tourism

Peoria staff is looking into how the city could benefit from sports tourism and bringing more athletic tournaments to the city.

City council recently approved funds in the amount of $19,445 to execute and deliver an economic impact study of Peoria’s community parks.

The city programs sports tourism events annually at Rio Vista, Paloma and Pioneer community parks on a year-round basis. Officials say these tournaments attract a significant number of participating teams from outside the Valley or out-of-state and wants to better understand the local economic activity generated by these events.
